When you're decorating a room "from scratch," it's a good idea to use main colors that will allow you to adorn the room with several different coordinating shades. For instance, if you want to decorate your living room with black and white, you can paint one wall black as an accent, and purchase a black couch and white arm chair. However, you can include a pop of color by purchasing a kelly green throw blanket for the living room, or a green area rug to place in the center of the room.

Home improvement expenses are not deductible on your tax return in the year they are incurred. They are considered capital expenditures and are added to the basis of your home (the price you paid for it plus closing costs and legal fees). When you sell your home, the increased basis decreases your capital gain and your tax liability. There are, however, some expenses related to home improvements that you may deduct
