How about painting the walls and the fireplace white and put some wallpaper above the fireplace like Tina Frey's bedroom featured in this blog http://decorology.blogspot.com/2010/02/technique-to-inspire-when-you-just-cant.html (bedroom in coral red). I think your furniture would look great with this.
If you fancy a splash of colour - how about painting the walls on either side of the fireplace in a nice spring colour or wallpaper with nice textures?
Just a few ideas from me, good luck!:-)
